Enlarged breast can be hereditary but also can be formed due to hormonal changes is pregnancy, lactations, menopause or as a result of weight gain.

Too big breasts lead to functional and aesthetic problems. They can sustainably disturb the mental condition and can lead to physical complaints. These include not only pain and tension in the spine with poor posture and headaches but also visible marks of bra straps as well as eczema, inflammation and other skin problems on the chest under surface.

An improvement in complaints can be achieved by a breast reduction. Although the costs of this intervention are often not covered by health insurance it is in many cases not a purely aesthetic but a medically meaningful intervention and quickly can lead to a very high satisfaction feeling.

During the surgery a harmonious breast size is formed due to the body and his proportions. Different sized breasts can be corrected in this way. In addition to removal of excess glandular and fatty tissue tightening is achieved by reducing the surface of the skin and repositioning the nipple seat. Raising the nipple is usually not impairing for blood circulation, sensitivity nerves and blood vessels. Nevertheless the feeling in the nipple can be reduced through scars. The ability to breastfeed may be limited after this procedure although it is operated to obtain the ability to breastfeed. According to current studies the individual risk of breast cancer is reduced by removing of glandular tissue within the breast reduction.

There are different surgical techniques that are applicable depending on the existing breast finding and skin quality. In the so-called I-section technique the cuts run circularly around the areola and then vertically as a line to the lower breast crease. Another scar along the inframammary fold may be necessary (T-section technique) and is usually unremarkable due to the overlying breast. The newly formed breast tissue is fixed to an “inner bra” at the breast muscles to achieve a long-term stable result of the breast form.

The surgery is performed under stationary conditions under general anesthesia and last 3-4 hours depending on the technique and finding. We recommend wearing a compression bra for 6 weeks days and night to support the breast shape during the healing phase. The wound drains can usually be removed after 1-2 days and the thread material after 2 weeks. In general you are already symptom-free after and few day and depending on the activity ready to work after 2 weeks. With no complications you should be able to do sports after about 6 weeks. The final result is usually achieved after 3-6 months.

In a personal and individual consultation we will gladly analyze your needs and expectations regarding breast size, breast shape, the ability to breastfeed, scarring or sensibility and will design a coherent treatment plan for you.
